I was expelled in sixth grade and spent the whole year watching the history channel and learning and reading books. Nowadays if a kid was expelled he'd get to watch ******* PAWN STARS!
Hey at least kids now a days can learn to valuable skill of pawnbroking or chopping down trees.

The problem with niche channels is that once you've covered that niche, you have to invent new programs to hold viewers. The History Channel obviously ran out of history to, um, channel. MTV ran out of music than anyone but an imbecile would want to listen to.

I remember when A&E used to be dubbed "The Hitler Channel" because it was all WWII all the time but they grew out of it. You can only fixate on black and white footage about stuff that happened 70 years ago for so long before you decide to return to the real world. That's not to knock all the people that served and fought (including my dad) but Nazis just aren't relevant to most people's lives anymore (thanks to their sacrifice). Same way with the JFK assassination. They're all dead now so what does it matter?

And I enjoy history. But I haven't watched the History Channel since 2006 or so. Just not useful anymore.

I must admit that I do enjoy the Pawn Stars show even though I don't think a show like that should be on the History Channel.

My wife and I are on a HGTV kick right now! Watching House Hunters, Property Virgins, Holmes Homes ,it gives us ideas of how to update our house and what people are looking for. Mainly because we like to update the house and also in case we have to sell if she gets orders somewhere else!! Like everything else, we'll probably exhaust ourselves from watching this, though we really don't watch alot of tv except during the winter!

I can sometimes see why Pawn Stars and Pickers (I think that's the name of it) are on the History Channel. Some of the stuff shown on those shows does hold some sort of historical significance. Last night I was watching Pawn Stars and some guy came in and wanted to sell a Remington 1868 rifle. The owner of the pawn shop proceeded to explain the historical relevance of that rifle and why it was dubbed "the rifle that won the west". It's not all for naught.

watched a couple of good educational shows today on the History Channel. I don't watch any of the reality shows, though.
