Avatar 9/10...

This movie is effin visually stunning from start to finish with great action/special effects galore. I love how real computers are making shit look these days.

I heard the thing about some people getting suicidal after watching this. I wouldn't go that far but it would be kickass to live in a huge tree house, bone blue chicks and swim in glow-in-the-dark water! And maybe it was the alcohol but the avatar women were kinda hot....just saying..

Seriously though, bad-ass movie!

Terminator Salvation - 8.5/10

Not sure why all the critics were killing this flick. I really enjoyed it. I realized going in that nobody would ever top Cameron's offerings to the series but I thought they did a good job with this. Every couple of years I need a reminder as to why you shouldn't base what you watch on reviews. See it and judge for yourself.

Crazy Heart- 9.6/10

Proving once again why Jeff Bridges is one of the acting gems of our generation. He does all his own singing and playing, and the story itself is fantastic. Think last years "The Wrestler" with an ex-country music star in lieu of an ex-wrestler. But better in some ways.

The Hurt Locker -- 7/10

I'm sure I'll get flamed for this, but am I the only person who thinks this is the most over-rated movie to come out in a long time? Best picture? Are you kidding me?

It was comforting to learn that Iraqi insurgents wait and watch as an IED is disassembled piece by piece before attempting to actually blow it up. I'm sure that's a big weight off of bomb-disposal type folks minds. Although, the guy at the beginning of the movie was a little too quick with the trigger. He actually waited until the bomb disposal guy was moving away, but set it off while he was still within 25 meters and still got him. . .sheesh.

Oh, and also, in the same line of thinking as "lightning never strikes the same spot twice", if your sniper buddy is shot dead-center in the chest by an opposing sniper a mile away, by all means man his gun in the exact same spot because surely the sniper can't hit you too.

I still give it a 7/10, but no way in Hades is this movie worthy of a Best Movie nod. Great acting, good overall story, but in the end, when the director is attempting to give it a documentary feel, then it should at least be believable imo.

I just watched some He-Man there the other day and couldn't believe I used to sit in my underoos and watch that!
My son is really into Batman: The Brave and the Bold right now. Its actually a really good series.

Don't worry, I feel the same way about Avatar. Definitely a good movie, but not near anything that should qualify for best picture unless we are judging strictly on a visual standard. I have no desire to see Avatar again on DVD unless its in 3-D. One of the best movies with one of the weakest stories I have seen in a long time. I really have a love/hate thing going on with that movie!

In regards to Hurt Locker, I agree it also pales in comparison to some of the other nominees. Still a decent movie, though.

I agree on Avatar as well. Visually stunning, and that alone makes for the price of admission, but the story is really a yawner. No new ground there, certainly not a best picture unless the visual effects are the only qualifier.

But, a word of advice for anyone who hasn't seen Avatar yet? By all means get to a 3-D showing of it while it's still in theaters. Certainly should be seen in the big-screen 3-D format.

the sniping scene did bother me in hurt locker... you would have to be retarded to man a gun in the same spot that someone just got shot. why would you step right into their already sighted crosshairs?

the movie is supposedly based on first hand accounts from a journalist who spent time with a bomb unit... but i can't imagine that he didn't change some things to make the movie more interesting/tense... i still like it though.

It's not a "bad" movie per se. The main theme of the story is a good one. Well acted.. . just some weird spots where I kept wondering when the bad guys would get a clue.

i'm in no place to say how accurate the insurgent stuff is... from my uninformed position i can see how they have a big deficit in technology and training, so they may not always be on top of their game.

but the sniper scene, them keeping the same gun position each time... that's GOT to be basic training type stuff. i can't see a well-trained soldier putting themselves in harms way like that.

Took my daughter and her friends (all 7 of them) to see that Poseiden movie today - Percy something or the other...

9/10

...high marks due primarily to no four-letter words and the violence was all pretty low key...and the story was decent.

...not too many movies made like that today. Good flick to take the middle age kids to...

Now, if the whole thing didn't wind up costing me a friggin C-Note, that would've been even better...

I remember seeing 'twilight' shows of Top Gun for under a buck...

How old am I?
